Note(s)Under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) published in 2010, new public buildings in European member states must meet the NZEB (nearly zero energy buildings) requirement after 31 Dec, 2018, followed by all new building after 31 Dec 2010. There is currently no possibility for derogation on the two NZEB deadlines, so houses designed and built before, but completed after the deadlines, will be in breach of the directive. Article queries whether Ireland has addressed these issues adequately up to the present time.
