Note(s)The author describes how Derry city is marked as much by the 'instructive gaps' in its architectural fabric as by the buildings that remain. He suggests that lasting damage was also caused by poor urban planning. The challenge nowadays is to create a contemporary vernacular architecture which sits well within the existing environment.
