Note(s)The refurbishment rather than demolition of the library enabled the architects to reduce carbon emissions and energy consumption. Passive measures such as natural lighting and ventilation strategies as well as others such as exposed concrete ceilings to make use of the thermal mass, storing and releasing heat absorbed ensured an excellent energy rating.
