Note(s) | Argues that iconoclasm has played a significant role in Irish history but should not be a part of its future. Buildings and architecture have played an integral role in Ireland's various waves of conflict, the author cites the examples of Nelson's Pillar, the GPO and the Four Courts in Dublin, the Boyne Obelisk near Drogheda, and in Northern Ireland places such as the the Derry Walls and locations bombed on Bloody Friday form part of collective memories. |
