Award : Public Choice Award - Winner in the RIAI Irish Architecture Awards 2016. After winning The Irish Times competition 'The Best Place to Live in Ireland' in 2012, the Town Council commissioned through a competition a piece of public art to mark this achievement. A public space was designed around the winning sculpture 'The Sentinel' by Ronan Halpin. The article notes the importance and benefits of having a strong resident architects department which overseen rejuvenation projects and has resulted in Westport winning many accolades.
