| Note(s) | During the restoration of five protected structures, the foundations of Galway's first stronghold, de Burgo Castle, were revealed. Evidence of the original shoreline was also discovered, along with the remains of the O'Flaherty sronghold from the 1100's. The new market building includes a glass floor that reveals the castle foundations beneath. |
