Note(s) | This is the text of an address by Professor O'Neill to the members of the Royal institute of the Architects of Ireland at their annual Conference of 1973 in Kilkenny. His text gives a brief outline of the background and history of architectural education in Ireland and the School of Architecture at University College Dublin. In this article he explains his conviction that architectural education has a dual obligation, on one hand to the intellectual aspirations of the students, and on the other to the practical requirements of the profession. He outlines a proposed course structure which would cover both of these aspects. He also addresses the issue of access to architectural courses and entry qualifications via secondary school exams. |
